Day 7 - June 28
(sorry, I’m a day behind on these posts…)
Today was spent in the Normandy Region of France, more specifically, the Calvados district. We began the day visiting the American Cemetary at Colleville-sur-Mer, including participating in a wreath-laying ceremony and singing the Star-Spangled Banner there. I don’t know about the rest of the group, but it was an emotional experience, seeing the perfectly manicured tombs of some 9,000+ American soldiers who sacrificed all in the D-Day invasions of WWII.
We continued on to walk Omaha Beach, the actual beach American troops landed on nearly 80 years ago. We then had a bit of free time in Arromanches before visiting a theatre to watch a 360º theatrical presentation on what happened here during WWII.
