Day 5 of our tour, and this morning we headed off for the French Alps! We had our longest day on the coach bus today, but it was well worth it when we arrived in Chamonix and saw how majestically beautiful the area is. We ascended to the top of Aiguille du Midi (12,605’) via two cable cars and tried to be patient, hoping to catch a break of sunlight in between the passing clouds; we were actually IN the clouds! It was breathtaking, quite literally, as the difference in atmosphere was quite noticeable. Required equipment for the ascent—jacket, camera, and albuterol inhaler…

After checking into the like-new hotel (the kids LOVED the hotel), we walked over to our group dinner. The view was splendid, as you’ll see for yourself below. Post-dinner, we took a stroll along the river, some educational moments with Ian our Tour Manager, then stopped en route to the hotel for the compulsory scoop (or three) of gelato. Tomorrow, a surprise additional stop in our itinerary—SWITZERLAND!

Some of our tour group on top of Aiguille du Midi. If you don't see you kid here, rest assured they didn't fall off the mountain; we ascended in two separate groups.
